Character Information
Name: Louis
Canon: Beastars
Canon Point: Post Chapter 115 - not long after visiting Legoshi in the hospital.
Age: 18
History:
Sorry, Beastars has a wiki, but his information is severely lacking to the point where none of his history is there. I'll just bullet list since it's going to be easier to read. I'm trying to keep it to significant events, which are important points for Louis, since there is obviously things that happen within the context of a school life of a third year approaching graduation that aren't as impactful.
• For Louis - life begins at the Back Alley Market. He watched his friends get pulled away and sold as food when he was quite small. At this time, he had the "4" marked on his right foot, as he was product - so he didn't understanding reading or writing or anything.
• From here, Louis was bought by an adult male deer (for 7 million yen) who had no children - Oguma. Oguma bought Louis to be his heir to his company, and raised him as his child. Before bringing him home, though, Oguma handed Louis a knife to fight off a room full of predators to see what would happen. Rather than being eaten, Louis raised the knife to his own throat. Impressed - Oguma brings him home.
• From here, Louis was afforded a lot of luxuries. He was educated, and sent to a great high school - Cherryton. I know it feels like I skipped a bit, but his background/history is sort of glossed over save for the few details mentioned, as the events in the manga are far more important.
• Early on in his high school career, he entered into a relationship with a white Dwarf Rabbit by the name of Haru. He used this relationship as an escape (and feels at peace with her), despite that she wanted more. He was with her through most of his high school career.
• While in School, Louis joined the Drama Club and became an immediate favorite. He aspired to be the next Sublime Beastar (which he was later nominated for and rejected). People were entranced by his ability to act. By his third year, he was the lead actor, and was a surefire shot for Sublime Beastar, in addition ot that, he was his class' representative.
• In his third year in school - things started to go to hell. A fellow classmate and member of the drama club was eaten (by the name of Tem, later, you find out it was by a bear named Riz). At this point, he asks Legoshi to help him. Legoshi is his teeth and claws, essentially, and steps in to protect Louis.
• Following Tem's death, things start to go crazy. There's a lot more precautions taken with the herbivore students. While Legoshi is actively searching for the murderer, Louis is there by his side throughout.
• Legoshi does fall in love with Haru, who Louis's still been in a relationship with secretly. This will be important later!
• At one point, prior to the performance, Louis overexerts himself and is unable to perform in the first show. While someone fills in for him (Bill), Legoshi is forced to take the stage in Bill's roll, and Legoshi ends up getting into a fight with him. Louis steps in, and fights back against the much larger carnivore.
• Louis also finds out that Bill has blood on him (literally - like in a vial :)), and pulls a gun on the tiger, telling him to back off. You can't hide things from this deer, after all!
• Okay! So - the next big thing that happens is Haru gets abducted! By the Shishigumi (essentially a mafia group filled with exclusively lions that have a huge part in keeping 'order' in the Back Alley Market).
• Legoshi decides he wants to go on a rescue mission to save Haru since he loves her, but Louis decides not to join him. Little did they know..
• After Legoshi manages to get Haru out and away from the Shishigumi lions, Louis makes an appearance. He regrets not helping. He steps in, shoves a gun in the current leader's face, and kills him right there.
• Louis takes over as the leader of the Shishigumi. As a leader, the lions learn to quickly respect and admire him. Though, at this time during his leadership, he is not taking good care of his body, and is making himself sick with eating meat.
• At this time, Louis has also dropped out of school (he pulled a gun on his dad to get him to sign his paper work - Louis solves a lot of his problems with guns), and takes up other bad habits such as smoking. He's fully indulged himself in the lifestyle of being in the Shishigumi. He's a well respected and loved leader, though, despite his species. While Louis is here, Legoshi is training (to use his body at it's fullest without eating meat, as it is taboo in this world to do so) and pursing whoever ate Tem - this is important!
• Legoshi and Louis meet a few times, so Legoshi is aware of what Louis is doing, and Louis is aware of what Legoshi is doing.
• Legoshi discovered that Riz was the one who ate Tem, and challenges him to the fight. He invites Louis to come see him during it, as he wants his support, since by this time, the two of them have become close and dear (or shall I say - deer) friends.
• While they are preparing for the fight, Louis makes a point that he wants to leave the Shishigumi. From here, Ibuki, who has taken Louis under his wing, gives Louis the choice - he can kill him and leave, or he can get eaten. At this point, Ibuki gets shot by another member of the Shishigumi (Free). During this car ride where this choice is given, Louis makes the realization that he loves Carnivores.
• Louis is free from the Shishigumi; however, he is warned to never return to the Back Alley Market.
• Louis sweeps in amidst Riz and Legoshi fighting, in which Legoshi was not doing well. The two of them pause, and Legoshi runs away with Louis.
• Louis pleads with Legoshi not to continue the fight. And is sure that if he goes back, he will die. This is the first, and only time, Louis has ever cried int he series. Despite what he has experienced previously, he's baffled when he first starts crying and can't seem to get a handle on his emotions.
• As a last straw, he offers his right foot - with the Number "4" inked on it from when he was a product sold on the Back Alley Market. He tells Legoshi to eat it to revitalize himself and go beat Riz.
• Legoshi eats Louis' right foot and returns to the fight (bringing Louis with him to see it end). Louis refers to this moment as the time Legoshi freed him from his curse.
• From here, the cops eventually arrive, Riz is arrested, and Legoshi ends up with a record, and Louis gets put in the hospital.
• Oguma visits Louis in the hospital and gifts Louis with a fancy new prosthetic foot/lower leg. (Louis mentions that Oguma does this frequently - gifts him with expensive things especially when he's not been particularly good). From here, his relationship with his adopted father is starting to be rebuilt.
• Louis reenters the school, and is nominated to be the next Sublime Beastar. He's being credited for finding Tem's Killer (since Legoshi ate his foot, and broke the law, then he will receive 0 credit for it). While he rejects the nomination (not feeling like he deserves the credit, he still decides to take it so as to not have Legoshi involved), he still is his school's representative.
• Juno, a female wolf, kisses Louis after a point. He's a little flabbergasted because of his fascination with carnivores.
• He hears about a teenage grey wolf who took down some punks, and is in the hospital. Realizing it was Legoshi, Louis visits and gives him a treat (including a bad joke in the progress). During his visit, he consoles Legoshi, and lets him know that it's fine for him to be into whatever he wants to (and calls him a perverted wolf).
I am taking him from after this event.

Personality:
Louis knows and understands that he is prey, and despite this knowledge, he doesn't like it. He points out several times that he is inferior since he lacks claws and fangs. In fact, his first appearance he suggests that Legoshi acts as his claws and fangs, and fights in his place. This already is telling us that he knows he is not as strong or powerful as a carnivore, and understands the natural order (though he is a bit resentful of this fact, as he seems to frequently hate his place in the world and fights to overcome it). It doesn't mean he likes it, it doesn't mean it doesn't make him feel bad about himself; however, it gives himself something to fight against. Louis is driven by his motivation to fight against the natural order of things. In a way, he's motivated to spite the way things are meant to be.

He is accustomed to being a prey animal, and he doesn't like it. He frequently fights back against it, too. Herbivores are typically raised on pedastals because they won't go feral or attack anyone typically; however, they are often victims of carnivores in their world. This is important, because Louis's natural place in life is low on the food chain. Despite this, he constantly is fighting and striving to push himself closer to the top.

Even though he is fighting against it, he has always felt and acknowledged his inferiority to carnivores. He fights against his inferiority by taking over the drama club, and also by striving to be the next Beastar - a title earned by students to represent their schools, and help keep peace. There's several instances where Louis is fighting against the natural order and rebelling against his knowledge and fear of inferiority: pulling a gun on a carnivore classmate, killing the leader of the Shishigumi and taking it over.

Since Louis started his life to be sold for food, he's not naive to the world. He learned early on who he was and what he would do. He has always known himself to be prey. Meat. Food. It's also why he so willingly gives up his right foot to his friend, since he kows it'll help him survive. He considers Legoshi eating his foot a noble act, and even later refers to what Legoshi doing as "Breaking his curse" - meaning the curse he has as a prey animal - and being marked as food. So while he knows and understands that technically Legoshi broke the law, and it was an awful thing that happened, he's grateful to his friend for taking it away from him. This moment allows Louis to start over, and he is currently overcoming his place as prey.

His early life led to another layer of his character, that he is still in the process of overcoming. Louis has severe survivors guilt. He watched other children get sold to carnivores for food. While this happened, he was spared himself. He thinks about that moment a lot, and that is why he refers to the tattoo on his right foot (that is now a prosthetic) as a curse. It is part of why he so willingly throws himself at danger (taking over the Shishigumi), despite previous moments of saying he wasn't going to play hero. It's why he allows himself to befriend carnivores, too. At least - initially. It's also probably why he likes them, as well. He thinks they're amazing creatures.

Louis is an extremely gifted leader, as well! The first instance of leadership you see is that Louis is quick to make decisions about the drama club. He almost comes across as cold in delivering news to individuals, but the decisions he makes are what he feels are best, and even though people disagree with him or are disappointed (Kai, in particular) they still honor his request. To get someone who doesn't like your request to still obey it says a lot about his leadership skills - which are only helped by his good looks (according to female and male students alike), charm, and ability to command a room (especially when he's acting).

Another instance of his leadership skills being shown as strog is the Shishigumi. I've mentioned a few times that he leads the Shishigumi - a mafia orgaization of lions. It says a lot that a comparatively small, delicate seeming deer could rule over a band of wild carnnivores so easily. They respected him quickly, and fell in love with him. After the canon point I am taking him from - they see him again, and despite threatening death on him, welcome him with open arms. Truly, they loved and respected him as a leader. Once again, this shows that even outside of the theatre, Louis is able to control and manage a room. He is extremely magnetic. He knows how to manage himself well in situations.

Louis strongly values his friendship with Legoshi. There is one, single instance in Louis' life when he cries, and that is over the fear that he is going to lose his friend. Even when he lost Haru to the Shishigumi briefly, he didn't react like that. This is important because it goes to show that people he could form a strong, equal relationship with he'll value until the very end. He'll sacrifice himself for, and give everything to them. These people are few and far between (only Legoshi in canon is able to get this reaction out of him). Even when he watched his friends get eaten as a child, he only goes cold. He will commit himself fully to a friend that he makes, and he will not give that person up easily, and is even willing to toss himself out if needed for the other. It's not to say Louis has a death wish, as he absolutely doesn't. Another example of this friendship (and this may also say a bit about how he percieves himself as prey, too) is that you only see Louis make a joke about anything once. He visits Legoshi in the hospital and makes a joke about himself being food for Legoshi. He follows up with "Be Grateful" he put so much effort into making Legoshi laugh.

On another hand, Louis doesn't immediately open up to strangers, nor does he give people who haven't earned his trust the same time of day. It takes awhile for him to build up to the level of trust and affection for others that he has for Legoshi. He gets there, but he'll likely keep strangers at an arm's length at the beginning. He isn't shown being as close and affectionate with many other people as he is with Legoshi, even classmates. He can be won over, over time, but it does take time and work.

Louis is often driven by getting what he wants out of everything, whether it's dropping out of school (pulling a gun on his father), demanding respect (pulling a gun on a fellow student - a carnivore). You'll notice that there's a similarity here - Louis often uses violence and threates to get what he wants, if he can't get it with his sheer magnetism and cleverness. Louis uses a gun to even the playing field between himself and carnivores. He uses the gun as a substitute for claws and fangs. In a world where he is prey, this is the only way for him that he can think of at times to get what he wants. Though he doesn't always need to pull a gun, he can use others (the lions of the Shishigumi or Legoshi) that are his allies to help him as well.

This probably says a lot about how he manages emotions. As previously mentioned - he only cries once. This says that he has a habit of either pushing his feelings away and ignoring them, or just straight up bottling them up. Or - he sometimes releases them in inappropriate ways. Aside from his over-use of guns as a form of expressing himself, Louis also escapes through sex with Haru. He comment several times while they're sleeping together, that he feels good when he's with her. He uses this relationship as a way to escape from the real world and the things that bother him, as he feels a certain level of safety with a weaker, more vulnerable animal (though he doesn't explicitely say this, it is easy to conclude that Haru's non-threatening nature brings him peace). He doesn't desire to pursue a relationship with her, despite that she wants one with him. He just wants to sleep with her and escape from reality while they're together.

Louis is unashamed of who he is, and won't let others feel the same way. When he and Legoshi talk in the hospital, he calls Legoshi a pervert, but then follows up by telling him that he's always know he's a pervert, and that it's just the way he is. It doesn't bother Louis - his friends can be into whatever they want. He doesn't want to make people feelb ad for being who they are, just as he won't feel bad for being attracted to or entranced by creatures that could eat him alive.

I know some of what I've said can make it seem like Loui's gifts come to him naturally. They don't. Louis was born with a disadvantage in the Back Alley Market. He couldn't read when he was young (when other kids his age would be able to). He has had to work a lot to get where he was. Louis puts sincere effort into getting the recognition that he gets. He works hard because he wants so badly to overcome any disadvantages.

In the end, Louis is a hardworking good guy who has made some bad choices. He is a teenager, after all - at only 18, and is prone to making mistakes. But, he does learn from them. And by the canon point he's from, he's already working to improve his life, and relationships with others. His relationship with his adopted father - Oguma - appears to have been mended.

He's overall magnetic, charming, and a good leader. However, he frequently escapes from reality in inappropriate ways, or has poor ways of managing his emotions, but once he finds someone he likes - he'll give them everything he has. Even a leg.

Abilities & Skills:
In canon, he has no superpowers. But he is:
• A smart and gifted leader
• A great actor
• He's good with a gun (though not useful here)
• Hard worker - he'll put his all into things!

Inventory/Companions:
The clothes on his back (including sweater and scarf), and his backpack (which only has school supplies + cell phone + wallet) - that he was carrying with him during his visit.

Choice: Witch.
Reason: Louis is a studious person. He works for everything he has. And while he'll always try, I feel like he will be more successful when he's given the option to have control over his own destiny. Also, I feel like it'll help him progress as a character, rather than causing him to revert to his stages where he acts out because he has less control over the situation.
